Two New Pokémon games are coming to Nintendo Switch.

Finally, the highly anticipated news that all the Pokémon fans around the world have been waiting for. Today, the Pokémon Company and Nintendo have revealed the game that would be coming to Switch, and to everyone's surprise, its not just one game but two!! The reveals were made via a press conference that was held in Japan today.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee

The new Pokémon game that is coming to Nintendo Switch

The first game is the traditional Role Playing game that the Pokémon franchise is known for. The game will be released in two versions namely - Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! The announcement trailer has been released today. Check it out below.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! Announcement Trailer:

The games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and will feature not only the traditional Role playing game play but also some new features such as -

  • Pokémon GO Mobile integration
  • Couch Co-op game play
  • A separate Pokéball designed controller

It is without doubt, the next generation of Pokémon Games.

Another important fact to note is that instead of featuring a new eighth generation of Pokémons, the game will feature the the very first generation. That's right, the generation that most of the fans love including me.

The game will feature the Kanto region, home to the original 151 Pokémon, just like the GameBoy games- Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow. The game will resemble closer to Pokémon Yellow as it was the game that featured Pikachu as a starter along with Eevee. Although Eevee was featured as a starter, the player would never be able to choose Eevee, as your rival, Gary ends up choosing it. So I believe that's where the idea came from for reintroducing Pikachu and Eevee as Starters. And just like in Pokémon Yellow, your selected Pokémon will hang outside its Pokéball alongside you. Even Junichi Masuda, Game Freak Director has stated that they have taken Pokémon Yellow as a base for the new game.

The Let's Go series is more targeted to new players, particularly the kids of today, who I don't think will appreciate the GameBoy versions of Pokémon Yellow in this era of technology.

Co-op gameplay in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu & Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee

Also the game has been simplified and made accessible via the features such as Co-op, which allows a second player to drop in anytime, and help out the main character. Also unlike the older games, the Pokémon encounters will not be entirely random and you have some freedom in choosing if you want to engage in a wild encounter. This all points out to the fact that the game is been developed for the kids. I mean of course, any kid who is familiar with Pokémon, would  obivously know Pikachu so why not make a game featuring Pikachu as your buddy, who you can take on your adventures.

Mobile integration in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu & Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee

Another important feature is the integration of the Pokémon Go game with the Let's Go series. For instance, the players will be able to catch Pokémon in Pokémon Go and will be able to transfer them over to the Let's Go game. This further opens up the idea of trading in a whole new perceptive.

The new Pokéball Plus device to help capture Pokémon

Nintendo will also be releasing a secondary peripheral called the Pokéball Plus, which is nothing but a joy-con controller shaped as a Pokéball. It can also be used instead of the earlier Pokémon Go Plus device. Also the device can be used to pet your Pokémon as seen in the trailer, which was cute and will win the heart of any kid.

Release date for Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu & Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee

The game is set to be released on November 16th this year for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Quest

The new Nintendo Switch game that is free to download now

The next game that was revealed was Pokémon Quest and it has already been released for the Nintendo Switch and it's free to download. Check out the trailer below.

Pokémon Quest Announcement Trailer:

What happens when Minecraft meets Pokémon Rumble - well, you get Pokémon Quest. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

The game takes place on a newly discovered island called Tumblecube island, where the voxel styled Pokémon roam free for treasure, food and fights. You will have to set up a base camp where you should create delicious food in order to attract Pokémon who you can then befriend and add to your team. That's right, no more reducing the hitpoints and throwing Pokéballs at Pokemon to capture them. Once you have befriended them , you can create a party of three Pokémons to battle.

Compared to the turn based combat in traditional games, the game limits the players control to only using special attack buttons. Otherwise the Pokémon go at it all alone without any help. This game style is pretty simple and is without doubt targeted for the younger audience, just like the Let's Go series.

The game is already out fot the Nintendo Switch. The game will also be released for the mobile platforms namely iOS and android, but not until late January next year.
