Epic Games finally confirms Fortnite Season 5 release date, along with Playground Mode Shutdown date.

The release of Fortnite's new Playground mode.

Epic Games has confirmed the Fortnite Season 5 release date via the game's Reddit page. The date is revealed to be July 12 at 1 AM PDT/ 4 AM EDT/ 9 AM BST/ 6 PM AET.

Also now Epic Games has released a new game mode for Fortnite called Playground. It acts as a private server which you could use to test out your skills. This allows the players to freely explore the map and they do not have to worry about getting shot down.

The various features of the Playground are -

  • Each Playground match lasts for one hour.
  • Storm Circe won't begin closing in until 55 minutes of the game has passed.
  • Friendly fire is active. Although once killed, you will automatically re-spawn.
  • Respawn is not possible if player is killed by the Storm circle.

But unfortunately, this is not the complete and final release of the mode. This is just the beta version released to the players, in order to check its functionality. And so, the Playground game mode will go offline on July 12, same day as Fortnite Season 5 release date. The release is merely for beta testing the new mode.

Epic Games has promised that they will be further improving the Playground mode to add additional features such as -

  • 1v1 and 2v2.
  • Aim assist  for controllers.
  • Editing other players structures.
  • Highlighting teammates on map.
  • Damaging enemies with pickaxe

Epic Games has admitted that Playground mode is the first step in creating a full creative mode for Fortnite.

It will be interesting to find what Epic Games would be coming with next.
