Next-Gen Update for The Witcher 3: How to Convert PS4 Games to PS5 Versions
Thanks to the PlayStation 5's great backward compatibility
feature, you can play most PlayStation 4 games on it. However, a few companies
give away free PS4 to PS5 game upgrades. This provides faster loading times and
enables 4K dynamic resolution gameplay at 60 frames per second, resulting in a
smoother gaming experience.
Witcher 3 Next- Gen Update released on December 14th.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, a beloved 2015 role-playing
game that is also available on the Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms, is the
most recent significant title to receive an upgrade. It included ray tracing
and 60 frames per second performance levels. This happened after the first
game's developer, CD Projekt Red, revealed plans for a remake, and before
Netflix's Blood Origin, a spin-off TV prequel, debuted on December 25.
Cyberpunk 2077, another notable game from the same studio,
had its next-gen update earlier this year after causing controversy when it was
initially published in 2020 owing to significant performance concerns.
Steps to Upgrade to Next-Gen Witcher 3
Since its release in 2020, the PS5 has been in and out of
supply at shops. Both the digital-only and disc-drive models have price tags of
$400 and $500, respectively.
You won't receive automatic updates or regular game updates
for your games, so it's simple to unintentionally continue playing PS4 games on
your new PS5. To upgrade to the PS5 version, you must visit the game's website
on the PlayStation Network. That will download the additional data required for
next-generation features.
If you purchased the PS5 with a disc drive, you can also
update to PS5 versions if you already own a physical copy of a PS4 game. The
PS5 version will always require the PS4 disc; upgrading will not grant you
access to a free digital copy of the game. You'll still need to download the
PS5 update from the PSN, but your PS4 disc will serve as an authenticator
instead of the PS5-specific one.
You're out of luck if you chose the digital-only PS5 and own
a CD. There are a few other restrictions and warnings:
- There are some PS4 titles that have yet to be released on the PS5.
- The larger file sizes of the next-generation versions will require more of the console's SSD's.
- You'll have a brand-new list of trophies (the list for each edition is distinct).
- Some games' saves won't transfer, and others demand that you manually upload your save from the PS4 version before you can access it on the PS5.
- Only special editions or cross-gen bundles offer some game enhancements
